Are you a product manufacturer of external pedestrian doorsets looking to place products on to the European market?
It is compulsory to CE mark the doorset and this is the responsibility of the person placing the complete doorset on the market.
The legal framework explained
The EU Construction Products Regulation (CPR) was implemented to make the trade and movement of Construction Products within the European single market easier and quicker.
The aim of the CPR is to confirm the dependability of information relating to the performance of Construction Products. This is delivered through Harmonized European Standards and European Technical Assessments (ETA) via uniform assessment methods which use a common technical language.
CE marking of doorsets
The CPR requires manufacturers of products covered by Harmonized European Technical Specifications such as Harmonized Standards and European Technical Assessments (ETAs) to draw up a Declaration of Performance (DoP) and CE mark their product/s.
These Manufacturers need to ensure that they manufacture and test their products in accordance with a documented FPC System and the requirements of the Harmonised Technical Specification.
BM TRADA provides CE marking of Construction Products via its sister company, Element Materials Technology Rotterdam B.V. (ERO). The same certification experts you have always dealt with are here to help and facilitate this.
CE marking for external pedestrian doors
External Pedestrian Doors and Windows are covered by the Harmonized Standard ‘BS EN 14351-1:2006 +A1:2016’. This standard covers product that fall under AVCP Levels 1, 3 and 4.
Doors and gates (with or with-out related hardware) intended for use in ‘Fire/Smoke Compartmentation’ and on ‘Escape Routes’ fall under AVCP Level 1 and therefore require the services of a Notified Certification Body, such as BM TRADA/Element to carry out the certification activities required by BS EN 14351-1. This is to confirm the suitability of the components used in the manufacture of the Door and also to carry out audits of the Factory and factory Production Control System as required by BS EN 14351-1.
